Directorr:
Tim Burton

Cast:
Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Mia Wasikowska, Anne Hathaway, Crispin Glover

Stars:

I really wasn't expecting much from this one and it was about what I expected.

The highpoint is the scenery followed in close second by the acting...all the players do their parts justice with Helena Bonham Carter stealing all her scenes as the Red Queen. My complaints are small but somehow taken together they hurt this movie more than the sum of their parts. There was little chemistry between the actors. Some of this is just the nature of the story in that Alice is a stranger in a strange world, but she spends a lot of time with the Mad Hatter and yet their friendship felt a little forced. What they havn't advertised is that this story is more a sequel with all the original characters and many of the orignal locations thrown back into the mix. As a sequel it works, but really only if you know the original story. There was little time spent introducing characters and I think that some of the younger viewers entering this world for the first time were a bit lost.

I don't think you're missing anything by passing this in theaters, but if you have the option, go for the 3D version for a more immersive experience.

much like avatar, i just cant muster up the motivation to want to watch this movie. that aside, i cant help but be curious as to what would happen to tim burton if johnny depp died.

i was at the midnight and thoroughly disappointed. i didn't expect it to be good, as the previews didnt make it look that great, but.. it just felt bad. when did alice become a feminist? it was a bunch of pretty scenery with nearly no story and it didnt even make up for it with characters you cared about. Crispin Glover was amazing, as was Helena Bonham Carter. but.. what was with the random accents/lisps? it felt like watching that made-for-tv Merlin movie.

Honestly, I thought it was cute. I wasn't walking in there expecting anything but a remade Disney movie. I'm agreeing that it's totally a sequel but even if you didn't know the characters, you could still follow easily. Alice in Wonderland was not one of my favorite movies ever, but I still thought it wasn't disappointing.

I want to see a remake of Pinocchio in this sort of style. Not a Burton/Depp film necessary but the same concept.
