Directorr:
Quentin Tarantino

Cast:
Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz, Mélanie Laurent

Stars:

I am convinced Quentin Tarantino is incapable of writing someone out of a story line without killing them.

Inglorious Bastards is a witty, tongue in cheek imagining of some events of World War II in Germany occupied France. A secret Nazi killing task force led by Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) stumbles on an opportunity to kill Adolph Hitler and its too good to pass up. Brad Pitt's performance, while excellent is actually the weakest of the bunch. He comes off as if he is trying to play George Clooney who is in turn trying to play John Wayne. His cartoonish character seems out of place with the other more believable and grounded characters. Still, it is Brad Pitt and he is, as expected, better than most.

The movie is a bit stitched together at the beginning as the characters are introduced. Each scene gets you invested in the characters but Tarantino never really gets underneath their skin to reveal their intentions or motivations. There was always a feeling that you were going to get to understand someone and then you never really do.

On the plus side, this movie wasn't bogged down with the typical pretentious Tarantino style "i write better dialog than you" conversations. While a few cameos felt like dropped reminders of what director you were watching, the movie itself seems off the beaten path for him...that is until the very typical Tarantino Wild Bunch ending.

I did enjoy the movie. There are some super suspenseful scenes one of which, in particular, reminded me of the restaurant scene in The Godfather where Michael kills Sollozzo and the cop. You know where its going, but its still intense getting there.

Overall, its a very good flick and worth checking out. If nothing else, its visual proof that Christopher Waltz is the new James Woods.

movie was good except for the fact that every single shot was inappropriately long and unpleasant and during some of the sequences where there was no audible dialog or music you could hear Tarantino's little pleasure oinks as he abused himself in the editing room
