What does Beta mean and how long will idiotechnica.com be in it?
Beta is a fancy schmancy technical term that means: We do not want to take any responsibility for the quality of our software at this time. Idiotechnica will always be in beta.

Space Station's Close Call with Catastrophe

According to the article the station was in danger of a potentially catastrophic collision with a 5 inch piece of space junk from a rocket that launched a satellite in 1993. While the piece missed the station, they don't know by how far. There are 10s of thousands of pieces of junk up there. Most of it apparently in high orbits, but enough in the lower orbits that they expect this will be an issue again. The residents of the space station took refuge in the Soyuz capsule prepared to abandon the station if necessary. Time for a cosmic janitor launch?

I wonder how much discussion is going on about the feasibility of sending something up to start cleaning this junk.

We haven't even convinced everyone to stop cluttering up the planet, how are we ever going to clean up outer space?

Also, didn't two satellites collide just recently? Soon enough, they will be building satellites that look much more like robot wars contestants.

I like that I can see everything while I comment. Maybe the threads should work this way too? We would need this little box to be expandable though.
