What does Beta mean and how long will idiotechnica.com be in it?
Beta is a fancy schmancy technical term that means: We do not want to take any responsibility for the quality of our software at this time. Idiotechnica will always be in beta.

Mini-Big-Bang from Large Hadron Collider achieved

http://atlas.ch/atlas_photos/selected-photos/lhc/LHC_hall_1.jpg The world's most beloved particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider, has achieved what scientists are describing as a "mini Big Bang".

20 years of work (and, previous to that, hundreds of years of work) has allowed scientists to recreate conditions similar to the dawn of the galaxy universe.

I'm kind of tired, so I won't go into the details of exactly how they managed to accelerate lead ions to unthinkable speeds and smash them together, but the BBC article provides a nice video interview with Dr. David Evans, one of the lead researchers on the experiment, who sums up the process nicely.

Check it out!

cool - i got to visit the synchrotron at canada light source a few weeks ago (it's the only one in canada!)

it was pretty fucking cool, though i did get confused by some of the technical stuff.
