http://my.opera.com/dmfalmeida/homes/blog/Motivation_stairs.jpg Great article by science writer Jonah Lehrer on intrinsic motivation; which gives insight on how our way of thinking about our own reasons for accomplishing a task can dramatically change our motivation and likelyhood that we will actually succeed.

I was familiar with the developmental studies with having kids color and giving them either stickers for their work or no stickers. I wonder, however, how young children would react to the I Will Do vs. Can I Do mentality. Rather than offer them rewards for their coloring give them a project and phrase it as stated above. I wonder this because young children have these tendency to overestimate their abilities, thinking they can do any thing no matter how difficult. I wonder how intrinsic motivation would influence young children's overestimation. I think I might like to test this.
