Heisman Trophy Winner Tim Tebow Wasn't Aborted

http://www.idiotechnica.com/data/users/2009/01/04/1/user_albums/16/timmy_w7cjzf.gif The conservative christian group Focus on the Family has purchased an advertising slot for the Superbowl to discuss its anti abortion stance.

The ad will apparently be TimTebow and his mom talking about how she was advised to abort little Timmy on account of her being sick. She refused to have the abortion, as any good person does and tada Tim wins the Heisman (bama still wins the national championship).

Gregg Doyel, a CBS columnist says it best.

"If you're a sports fan, and I am, that's the holiest day of the year," he wrote. "It's not a day to discuss abortion. For it, against it, I don't care what you are. On Super Sunday, I don't care what I am. Feb. 7 is simply not the day to have that discussion."

It's retarded. ESPN has had this all over for the last week and it's really pissing me off.

No, but some reporters have had glances at it and are not pleased.

I wrote a blog on this issue on my personal blog [would post all of the entries on idiotechnica but I assure you it isn't of interest to you all; just close friends and family]. Anyways, since I'd just be reiterating what I've already said - I'll simply re-post my blog entry. It's also worth noting that the facebook group I mention immediately removed their post in praise of Tebow's commercial and fan group as well as the link to it on their site. Here's the entry:

So, I've been following this issue of CBS reversing it's policy on airing issue-based commercials. Apparently there's a Tebow pro-life commercial that is to air on CBS during the Super Bowl. You can read more about it here:

At any rate, I have added a lot of fan and group pages on Facebook seeking support and information regarding the life of a military spouse, soldiers, Army and deployment. They've been serving their purpose thus far, however - I spotted a personally disturbing post from one of the groups. It's a group called March of Honor; which is based on the drive for Americans to try and have a day put on the national calender where we all remember and embrace our soldiers who have had to face the Iraq and Afghanistan war effort. Well, they made a post in support of the pro-life commercial and a group that supports a purely pro-life stance; I found this incredibly inappropriate and you can see my comments on the issue below - they're highlighted in red.

March Of Honor The March Of Honor believes in free speech and also knows the quality person and determined athlete Tim Tebow has been over his career. He is a man with many missions and a huge supporter of our Soldiers and their families. For this reason with respect for diverse opinions on the issue, but also respect for a driven an...d sincere American, March Of Honor shares this support page.

March of Honor:
This is an amazing group of people on the March Of Honor with a diversity and understanding that not everything is so neat and perfect in life. It's this diversity of beliefs that will prove no match for our shared goal...To help our soldiers and their families. Thank you and regards on a safe weekend for all.

Jennifer Mohr:
A pro-life ad about a woman ...going against the best advice of medical professionals and risking her life - as though everyone should do the same. Yes, her and her baby turned out fine but what does that say of women who have to make this difficult decision and watch this commercial? Guilt tripping mothers - especially those in as tough as a spot as their lives being on the line when pregnant is ridiculous. You nor I should provide comment or advice on the matter unless it's requested; this is a personal matter between the woman, her family and her doctor.

How I feel about the content of the commercial aside, there are plenty of people who don't wish to watch issue commercials during a Super Bowl. Regardless of whether the ads are pro or anti choice on the matter of abortion; CBS will lose a large sum of viewers over this decision... Especially if activist groups utilize their new policy to buy time. The viewership is as large as it is to watch football, have a good time and watch amusing commercials. Not watch issue-based commercials that invigorate an emotional response and possibly heated arguments over political issues.

I appreciate Tebow, his family and sports stars who support the military. I do not approve of this move however and anticipate a strong backlash. CBS is free to do as they please and I certainly discourage censorship. However, there's a time and place for everything and discussion or airing of serious issue-based ads is certainly not expected or welcome by the majority during a football game. I'm wondering how March of Honor would feel about Susan Sarandon airing an anti-war and anti-soldier commercial during the game? Free speech, correct?

March of Honor is supporting a group that is based on this site: http://www.redenvelopeday.net/. Thus, it's showing a bias to those who are purely pro-life. Unless March of Honor has an interest in also supporting a group on the latter of the argument - I fail to see how it's and I quote"with respect for diverse opinions on the issue,".
