There seem to be lots of things missing or that just plain don't work.
That's not a question. Its a statement. It's an honest mistake to be sure, but maybe its a sign that you should start spending more time thinking about how you might improve yourself and a little less time nitpicking every little detail of any given website.

Star Trek Keeps Women In The Kitchen Where They Belong

http://blog.calgarypubliclibrary.com/blogs/movie_maniacs/star_trek_03_1024.jpg Sapna Cheryan of the University of Washington conducted a study where she basically created 2 computer classrooms. One decorated in geek stuff like Star Trek Posters and one decorated neutrally (plants and stuff).

Different people were shown one classroom or the other and then had to fill out a questionnaire regarding how they felt about the Computer Science field.

The results?

Girls were less enthusiastic about computer science if they had seen the Star Trek room as opposed to the neutral one.

Men didn't give a crap one way or the other.

The research suggests that girls might steer away from geek career paths if they are subjected to this kind of environment because they don't feel like they would fit in.

Makes you wonder how many problems we could solve if we just decorated all workplaces with Star Trek posters.

Really?!?! Baby, baby, baby.....where would you be without me, I know for one thing you would know a heck of a lot less about evolution mister two primordial ooze guy. In fact, before me you could not tell the difference between Darwinian evolution and Lamarckism. Sorry to be so harsh.

But why don’t you go back to your star trek toys and your "computer" science and leave the real stuff to us. In fact while don't you take a break from figuring out to how to format a box and make me a sandwich. I am too busy working on real science to be bothered.

there is still no evidence that there wasnt more than one ooze.

I don't think he was questioning your intellect or knowledge, he was simply saying you don't feel comfortable in the male dominated sciences. SHEESH

At least in my area it is much more female dominated so I feel pretty comfortable. However I was thinking that in the study I would have been one of the outliers. I have always loved geeky science stuff. I am sure I would have done just as well in the geeky science room, if not better. In fact at Mike's old place I used to get my best work done sitting near his collection of science fiction dolls (e.g., transformers, tomb raider, star trek).

since women tend to be more focused on relationships and social networking I wonder if having science posters reflecting psychology, biology, and anthropology would make a difference. I know in other studies, on average, women seemed to be more effected by content in general in these situations relative to men.

thats because men dont relate decorations to problems. we pair up respective solutions and disregard the noise. women are all about the noise. omg the noise.

because that noise is annoying to you it's adaptive to me ;)

Plants aren't neutral if you can speak to them.
"You can do anything you set your heart to," my plant whispers.
I say, "Thank you plant." Then forget to water it.

There's a lot of funny in these comments.

Is there a female targeted science fiction franchise in existence? If not, this fact alone might tell us something about female's natural avoidance of comp sci. I still think girls just hate math though.

I know Virginia was joking, but her argument is pretty limp. Mike was making the claim that things would go more smoothly if men were allowed to conduct science or specifically computer science without the interference caused by having women around (which is no small amount). Maybe he's right or maybe he's wrong, but saying that he wouldn't know something because a woman was the one who happened to tell him things that men already knew (and developed) is kind of silly as a counterpoint.

You should argue instead that women can do things in science that men can't, or that they do them better and are needed. I'd sure like to see some evidence of that.

Paranormal romance is really taking off but that's more like vampire sex. Other than that, no, not really.

wow. I am not going to even get into the fact that paranormal romance is NOT a science and that people that are more interested in sexual mythological creatures then what is actually happening in the world, which by the way is so much more tremendously cooler and more sexual then anything these books/movies could ever offer, are not called women but retards.

Nicole's comments aren't really meant to be discussed on any sort of logical plane.
