A guy by the name of Glen McCracken is trying to reach level 70 with a single kill. He is leveling up rather by securing flags in Domination, but also plays Demolition and Team Deathmatch as well. Right now, Glen is level 11, with 272 deaths and zero kills.
"I've already hit Prestige five times. I thought it would be something interesting to do," Glen told Game Informer. "It definitely gives you a different perspective on the game, and it's fun and challenging."
After 2 years of rumors and clues of Resistance 3, there has finally been an officially announcement. The release date is set for TBA 2011.
While Resistance 2's multiplayer was crapola, the single player was fun and the story was a pretty good follow up to the original. I'll keep my expectations high for the continued story and hope they get their head out of their ass for online play this time around.
Activision is taking steps like other publishers to encourage people to buy new copies of games instead of used.
Here's a fucking idea! Lower the prices of the games you asshats. I don't buy used games a month later so i can get 5 bucks off of the 60 dollar new game price. I wait a freaking year so i can buy for 30 bucks less. Now if video games were 40 bucks instead of 60, i and many others would probably buy more games at release.
But instead of you getting less profits from a new game you'd rather piss and moan about getting no profits from used games. brilliant.
Infinity Ward mutineers Jason West and Vince Zampella have announced the creation of their new development company Respawn Entertainment as well as their initial partnership with Electronic Arts (EA).
Does this mean EA will compete with itself for modern warfare like titles with Bad Company and whatever Respawn makes for them? I don't know. Since it seems like Battlefront 3 is never going to happen, I wouldn't mind seeing these guys attack a quality next generation space themed first person shooter. One inspired by battlefront and modern warfare stands to be pretty impressive.
This warrants a class action lawsuit. I am sure i can't be the only one that wants these people to stop toying with my heart. A manager at Slant Six, the developer working on the project has reported that they have fired a bunch of people because Lucas Arts has canceled the next battlefront release. The reason being that they wanted it by 2010 or not at all.
The Asteroids game high score has recently been broken by John McAllister of Washington state. He acheived a score of 41338740 after 57 hours of play. The above links to a Kotaku article as the play was still ongoing.
The site which launches this week will allow boys to look through profiles of girls to play online games with for a few minutes. It can be flirty or dirty. I would be extremely surprised if there was any money to be made here. there has to be services already in existence with a more lucrative payoff than dirty talk while playing video games.
besides the obvious issue of not having a free hand, what is going to happen when some pathetic schmuck desperate enough to need this service pays, plays and gets beat by a girl? Video games was all he had. He's going to cap himself for sure.
Nintendo has announced the successor to their gargantuanly popular handheld DS system with the tentatively titled 3DS. Apparently the specs will be about as powerful as the Gamecube and will feature 3D without the need for glasses.
Cool article by Brandon Reinhart of Valve discussing the upcoming engineer update for Team Fortress 2. He goes into detail about a new item - The Repair Node - that was fully developed but ultimately canned due to it's impact on the overall game.
If you are into this kind of thing, this article gives some really cool insight on the game design behind Team Fortress 2 and how they come up with their weapon and map designs.
From the article: "This is usually how we approach our game design: Identify a problem, then discuss the ways it could be solved. Our experience told us that even when the Engineer didn't feel immediate pressure, he still couldn't range out away from his base. If a Spy, Soldier, or Demoman found the base unguarded, it didn't take long to blow up. The further away an Engineer was, the fewer buildings he would be able to save from sapping. We also felt that the Engineer invested a lot of up-front work to establish bases that were very easily destroyed. Thus the repair node was born."
Leaping even further beyond all competition, Valve has launched the open beta for the new Steam UI update. Anyone with steam can click here and opt-in to the beta.
After monkeying around for a few minutes, it seems that most of the new UI is still missing, however it gives a good idea of what the new Steam will be. It looks like Valve is finally integrating all the bits and bites that has been added to Steam over the years, so now friends and achievements info is more readily available right from the games library. The download tool looks to be a bit handier as well.
With all the goods being offered up for the affordable price of $0, I wonder why anyone would willingly pay for Xbox Live?
MAG is officially released today. The game is supposed to handle up to 256 players broken down into squads of 8. There is also a chain of command and while not required, incentives are doled out for following the orders of the squad leaders and whatnot.
They are sort of pitching this as never been tried, but the fact is, it has. Resistance 2 had this hierarchy as did Bad Company. While both games delivered on the scale they promised, neither had acceptable game-play and were a complete waste of money. That said, the trailers and game play videos I have seen look pretty cool. I just hope what im seeing converts to fun when played.
George Hotz of iPhone hacking fame is in the news again as he has claimed a successful hack of the ps3 root. Hotz, who rose to fame as the guy who made the iPhone work on any network will release the details of the playstation 3 hack to the public when he has it perfected. It requires both hardware and software modifications. Sony is nervously awaiting his report.
Well it's official. One in five men in the UK rather play CoD than be in a relationship. Or at least 20% of women break up with men who refuse to give up their excessive video game use, with CoD being linked as a the numero uno offender of women. On top of that it was found that 70% of women reported that most arguments centered around excessive video games use and 72% over too much internet usage.
PC Gaming overlords Valve have released the results of their December 2009 hardware survey. The survey was completed voluntarily by users of Valve's own PC Game hub Steam.
How do you stack up against other gaming nerds?
Intel and Nvidia are still very much dominant in the cpu/gpu worlds.
A bit of a surprise to see Windows XP 32-bit at the top of the OS chart with 44.77% of users. Vista 32-bit was a meager 20.71%, with the relatively brand new Windows 7 64-bit already at 15.61%. (Vista 64-bit reached 10%)
Very good piece from Clive Thompson at Wired.com exposing how 3D realms head honcho George Broussard managed to shoot himself and his team in the foot for 10 years until inevitably bleeding out.
Its actually tough to read. You just want to stop this guy. Its the software industry equivalent to Kevin Costner refusing to lay up in the movie 'Tin-Cup'. Its partly admirable, but mostly sad.
Chris Marazzo, a video games casting director has said that he worked on the casting for Battlefront 3 and that it is still in development. Confirmation hasn't come from anywhere else and no one knows which developers, if any, are working on it.
Kim Sears, Murray's long time girlfriend dumped him because he plays video games up to 7 hours a day. This makes me lol because my way hotter girlfriend is tolerant of my Playstation use and I'm not even a tennis star (or an anything star for that matter).
But the real point to this story is...Hey Andy, add me, Username = spazdaq.
Modern Warfare 2 is everything its supposed to be...at least the multiplayer. The single player left something to be desired. You can almost sense that Infinity Ward knew that online play was the money shot and the single player mode was nothing more than an after thought.
Single Player:
The graphics are drastically improved from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The maps are prettier and the textures are more detailed. The game overall is visually stunning. My main gripe with the single player is that there appears to be no way to not die. I played it on regular difficulty which is actually medium-easy. Still, there were some parts where you realize that you can't fight. You have to run. But you don't realize this until you die. You would probably have to play the levels hundreds of times to traverse them confidently with minimal deaths.
The story is a convoluted tale of a wag the dog style war but it gets you from level to level and to the end of the game in about 4 hours if you know what you are doing. A modest effort made for a decent game but I doubt I will spend much time revisiting the single player.
Multiplayer:
If you have played Cod 4: Modern Warfare, then the controls will be very familiar and easy to get used to. The game play is identical, but be careful, the speed and overall feel of the game is different. The game plays much faster and smoother so strategy should be adjusted from 4 style play to match the upgraded pace.
The challenge / equipment / perks system is expanded as well. The addition of perks that can improve as you complete more challenges is a welcome addition. Also, the addition of customized kill streaks adds an element to the game. Basically you have the option to bet you are going to get bigger kill streaks and get better pay offs from them. If you aren't that confident, you can set up your streaks for less kills, but the perks for those streaks are not as impressive.
The maps are gorgeous. They don't, however, seem to have had the same thought put into them as in the original Modern Warfare. The idea of "this side of the map, that side of the map" seems gone as the maps are bigger, more complicated and have tons of nooks and crannies that make them more seemless and less sectioned. I personally enjoyed the maps that were sectioned into halves or quarters and while I don't know the maps inside out yet, this doesn't seem to be the case here. Think World at War or COD4 map packs. So many rooms and levels. That's pretty much how these feel. I was kind of sad that there weren't any throwback maps included. Would have loved to seen Ambush or Bog get a re-imagining in MW2.
Overall, the new guns, perks, equipment and maps make this a great update to a game that wasn't even played out yet. Modern Warfare 2 is Modern Warfare on steroids and its worth every penny for the juice.
