The thing with golden-era VMO was that it was a lot of clever people at a fairly young age (except for spazdaq). Now that everyone is old and apathetic, we seem to be satisfied with reading some news and only commenting once in awhile. This isn't necessarily a bad thing though.
As for games and events, the userbase isn't big enough to support them, but if it ever gets to that point I'll organize something.
I remember when VMO was new that users tried to recruit new users from the dilly or other places...
It was a "more the merrier" attitude.
But now it seems that there was a whole screening process with the "If you're wondering why it's dead here at VMO, I might tell you if you PM me" thread.
It looked to me like there was some sort of exclusivity going on to purposefully keep the userbase low.
