I want to like idiotechnica...

but I just don't.

Where's the fun?

Is this all it is meant to be?
A cold grey slab of current events with a handful of invited people?
I can read articles and leave comments on them on a million other websites.

I know VMO was ridiculous with it's voting game. But it was fun at first. And even after it was old, it was fun to have around to make fun of the people who took it seriously.
And there was just a spirit of goodtimes there, that I just haven't seen pop up here.
There were creative games or memes popping up all the time.
There were meetups, secret santas, postcards, and a big crossover of internet friends into IRL friends.

I guess I'm still mourning the loss. Because I looked at VMO today and it really is gone.
It really was a nice little community we had there for a while.
Thanks for that, spazmike.
It was nice while it lasted.
I guess it's decline wasn't ultimately in your control, though.

Good thread. I'm indifferent. Of course I'm upset about the decline of the good ol' days, but life happens man. Unless we get a viable VMO crew back together it'll just take a shape in another form.

spazdaq: if you dont like it, its your fault

This should be on rotation with "You don't belong here."

The thing with golden-era VMO was that it was a lot of clever people at a fairly young age (except for spazdaq).     Now that everyone is old and apathetic, we seem to be satisfied with reading some news and only commenting once in awhile.   This isn't necessarily a bad thing though.

As for games and events, the userbase isn't big enough to support them, but if it ever gets to that point I'll organize something.

I still want a podcast though.  In time!  Maybe something monthly would fit.

I like this. Put blame on the users. Fuck 'em!

Personally, I'm a fan of less drama, so I don't really find this site "boring" as some might.

I remember when VMO was new that users tried to recruit new users from the dilly or other places...
It was a "more the merrier" attitude.

But now it seems that there was a whole screening process with the "If you're wondering why it's dead here at VMO, I might tell you if you PM me" thread.

It looked to me like there was some sort of exclusivity going on to purposefully keep the userbase low.

This was true at first since we needed to establish an initial culture of people who type in full sentences and don't post pics of 17 year olds in their skivvies.

Now it's pretty much a free-for all but I think we have enough regular content to scare off any potential curlyhairedhotty69's.

For the record, the reason I forced people to PM me instead of just linking the site was to underline the fact that posting here is different than it was over there.     Annnnd I may have wanted to avoid the migration of certain forum killing members from brittain.

Fran, if you're not a hipster, I literally do not know what a hipster is.
