There seem to be lots of things missing or that just plain don't work.
That's not a question. Its a statement. It's an honest mistake to be sure, but maybe its a sign that you should start spending more time thinking about how you might improve yourself and a little less time nitpicking every little detail of any given website.

Angry faces at the gym
10/28/11 01:41 AM

So I was at the gym tonite doing "arnolds" and this guy asks if he can jump in. Ive worked out with him a few times before and he is a character...sorta chris tuckerish.  While im in the middle of his set, he starts saying i look like a serial killer when Im lifting.  So we paid attention to his face and he looked like a serial killer too. I suggested that we should try and make normal faces while lifting which lead to even funnier faces.  I think I looked constipated..he looked like he was guilty of something, but that could be racial bias.  Then one of the trainers the guy is friends with comes over and he asks what the fuck the guy is doing and he tells him so the trainer grabs some weights and starts curling and trying to not make a face (he looked like he was gonna cry).  Then he goes off to the other side of the weights area and I could tell he was telling the guy he was working with to try not making a face.  it was pretty amusing.

I started thinking about the practical applications too.  While I was trying to not make a face, I was paying attention to whether or not the face comes before the muscles are engaged or after. Like is it a prelude to the action, like anger before violence.  But it seemed to be that it happens at the exact moment the muscles are exerted.  So I am wondering what the point is. The fact that it isnt a prelude to the action means that it cant be predetermined by the object of the action as a warning.  So the face itself is paired with the actual action itself but for what purpose?  Then I started to think it might just be a hormonal response to adrenaline or endocrine thingy or whatever and is a byproduct of the bodies adjustment to the muscle exertion.  So what if I practice a lot and get rid of the face altogether while lifting at the same plateau as I do now (fake it till you  make it).  Does that mean if I let myself make the face after the reconditioning I would be able to lift more? Something else I thought was interesting - My knees got wobbly when I didnt make the face.  It wasnt a balance thing, just a loss of stability that returned as soon as I quit resisting the angry face. So yeah i'll be toying with that at the gym the next few weeks. whatever the results, it should make the gym more interesting.

I keep reading this and wanting to derive some scientific explanation for it all, but I just keep picturing mike and some gym dude staring at each other's face and giggling. Then I have to force myself to think of anything else.
