we found this sea turtle that got lost trying to make its way to the ocean after hatching. He was headed the wrong direction. The street lights by the beach confuse the turtles sometimes and they head towards the lights instead of the ocean. The sea turtle conservation groups are constantly fighting with the city to get them to turn the lights off during the turtle hatching season, but for whatever reason they don't listen. We found this guy in the middle of the road about 2 blocks from the beach that he hatched on. We walked him back to the beach but he just kept turning around and headed towards the road again. The local turtle conservation group was releasing hatchlings that night not too far from us. They collect them and release them in a darker area so the lights don't confuse them. We met up with them and this little guy joined the other turtles in their excursion out to sea. it was cool we got to see about 300 babies head out into the ocean.
It was really a great experience seeing all of those baby turtles being released into the water and omg that little guy was so adorable. I hate the city of Hollywood for never turning off those light and I hate all of the asshole beach goers that constantly leave their trash all over the beach. I keep telling Mike that I want to start a campaign to get signs put up along the beach asking people to pick up after themselves and to try to get the city to start strictly enforcing a liter law. It breaks my heart every time I go to the beach and see trash everywhere or when I see a sea turtle in the road.
