Apple suing HTC
03/07/10 02:05 PM

http://news.cnet.com/8301...30686_3-10463629-266.html

Apple is suing HTC for Patent infringement. They've said which patents have been infringed upon, but they haven't yet said how HTC has violated the patents.

Am I the only one who thinks that this just going to hurt the industry and hinder any advancement in the handheld world?

any phone, where you have to look at the screen to dial, is a waste, and any computer where you have to surf on a 4 inch screen, give me headaches. I'll stick to my Motorolla, its just a phone and that's all I'll ever ask of it.

I had a windows mobile HTC and I hated it.

I really think it depends what software is on the phone. I personally had a chance to deal w/ android on my brother's Nexus One and I hated it. Simply because I pressed 1 on the keypad and then the phone dialed #. Lame.

I'll buy an android when they get the bugs out.

my htc g1 android has no bugs that im aware of. granted, i dont push it by any means, but the phone, canned apps and few custom apps i run work fine. i will say that i think its a bad move for google to be carrying multiple versions of android on different hardware. it almost seems generious to call it an OS when they handle it more like proprietary software for each phone. that probably is the reason behind any bugginess people notice.

I'm definitely going to be swapping over to an Android but I'd like the software and application development to mature a little more before I jump on. I've heard that the iPhone simply has more applications available at the moment. But seeing that the Android has an opensource platform I can see the tables turning. Plus I don't have to own a Mac to write an application.

This version of the Android looks promising but I'm not a huge fan of Sprint.

i honestly dont know how many apps there are for the iphone, but ive browsed the android app library and honestly dont see any end to it. its huge.

also, for shits and giggles, i downloaded the dev app and wrote some test apps in java. it was extremely easy...albeit the emulator was quirky and slow...but that was a year ago. im sure its improved since.

the only reason i can see for the popularity of iphone over android is the same reason for the popularity of macs. apple is a freaking marketing monster and they will convince anyone of anything.

I think Apple has around 90k-100k apps, and Android Market has about 10k. But I do see that changing soon. I just got droid.

Supposedly Verizon is supposed to get 4g this holiday season in South Florida. So I'm holding off till then to upgrade to any phone.

"This year, Verizon Wireless plans to launch its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless services in 25 to 30 markets nationally. LTE will offer customers significantly greater network capacity than even today’s most advanced 3G coverage. The new South Florida switch is equipped for and will play a key role in the upcoming rollout of 4G LTE technology in this region."
