It never fails, the night before a vacation - I develop an advanced case of bird brain. I do what my mother affectionately calls "nesting". Except instead of the typical definition, "preparing the environment for the arrival of offspring"... I'm simply preparing the environment for our return. This always drags into the wee hours of the morning and then I curse myself the next day.

It makes sense to clean the place, who wants to come home from vacation to a messy apartment? However, I can not for the life of me understand as to why I put it off to the very last second. Maybe I actually ENJOY the rush of having a time crunch to finish the task. It's almost like I'm putting the task off simply so that I can challenge myself. Sometimes I even usher my husband to the room to witness my handy work because we're clutter monkeys and it often seems like mission impossible to find a place for everything.

With all of the joy of a clean apartment done with a time constraint, there comes a price. The real pain will come tomorrow morning when I have to get out of bed around 5 in the morning and make sure that we have all of our bags packed. Those who know me intimately are well aware that if my head was not securely fastened to my neck, I'd probably leave it behind. It's 1 in the morning so I'll only be getting 4 hours of sleep, work will be fun tomorrow! Lets see how functional I am, imagine dragging my feet like a zombie and howling about how going to bed so late was a bad idea. Lucky for my cats, I remembered to set their extra food and water bowls tonight lest I forget in the morning.
