Yeasayer - Odd Blood

Author Photo: kyle This is a review of Yeasayer's somewhat recently released album Odd Blood.

I will start by saying I've been a fan of Yeasayer for a bit (~a year or so). Their first album (All Hour Cymbals), I thought, was marvelously experimental. You could hear how they were searching to create 'their' sound. Odd Blood is the answer to their first debut album. It seems they found whatever it was, and went with it.
Beautifully compositional, ringing with a palpable mix of your standard indie pop-rock and pleasingly new doses of Middle Eastern, African, folk and dub musical roots. Odd Blood focuses more on coalescing their music into a sort of indie-funk-dance, with great success.

Yeasayer played at this years 2010 Coachella. Reports have it they were confined to the medium tent. However, the tent was filled over capacity as soon as they started playing. They were such a hit, Coachella'rs gathered outside the tent to join the huge dance fest they caused. Coachella officials announced they would like Yeasayer back next year and would grant them a larger, outdoor stage.

If you like the indie rock scene in general, you should definitely check out Yeasayer if you haven't already. The following youtube video is Yeasayer - O.N.E. (very recently released):
